Greenland is a wilderness adventure like no other. The Greenland Ice Cap Trek takes a small team of adventurers to the edge of the northern ice cap on this epic six-day trek through the dramatic and rapidly changing arctic landscape.
We will hike through the tundra, passing glaciers, moraines, erratics and kettle holes - vast lakes hollowed out by glacial melt. In this utterly wild environment, far from civilisation, your training will pay off as your pack feels light, and you can fully immerse yourself in the Arctic ecosystem.
Greenland's summertime fauna paints the whole landscape with swathes of rich colour, and you will be able to spot herds of reindeer, silky arctic foxes and fearsome musk oxen weighing almost half a tonne.
As we explore deeper into the wilderness, your expedition skills come into play, and we will set up camp after three days near the Greenland ice cap. You will fall asleep listening to the incredible power of the ice cap as it splits and cracks, launching chunks of ice the size of houses onto the tundra below. This carving alone is an experience like no other and one that future generations may not have the privilege of enjoying.
Your training will allow you to enjoy being in a remote, delicate ecosystem on the front-line of climate change.
“My Greenland experience with Turn Wild went well beyond expectations. I wasn’t prepared for the wonderful sensation of true remoteness. It was a great physical and mental challenge and I am left obsessing with what comes next. Ian did a great job of making sure we were ready for everything. I can’t recommend highly enough.”

Do I need to be experienced in wild camping?
You'll need to gain wild camping experience before you go on this expedition. You can get this at our training event in Dartmoor. A prerequisite for the trip if you have yet to go wild camping with us.
How fit do I need to be?
The fitter you are, the more enjoyable and safer your trek. Please remember the Turn Wild mantra over the next few months: "Train hard, trek easy!". Greenland 2024 is an amber expedition rated challenging on the Expedition Traffic Light System. Suitable for novices as long as they have done the correct training and preparation.
A training goal you should aim for is being able to do one or many of the following:
Hike for 6 hours, regularly carrying a minimum of 15kg with an ascent of over 500m.
Cycle 60 km regularly.
Run regularly 10km.
We reserve the right to remove any team member at their expense who is at an unsafe fitness level. We have a Turn Wild Strava group to aid your training. We teach you all about what training to do in an expedition physical preparation seminar.
What is the polar bear risk? Will I have to do a polar bear watch?
Three years ago in May, there were a couple of sightings of the odd polar bear drifting down from the north on ice flows. No polar bears have been spotted in the area in July/ August. The government deems it safe and states no firearms or bear deterrents are needed.
Will we be able to go on the ice cap? Yes, you will. We will walk up to the Ice Cap where tours frequently stop to go on to it. You will then be able to step on at your own risk.
What if I get COVID before the trip?
We strongly suggest that you insure yourself against cancellation. Sadly, we can not refund or move your place.
What is the weather like?
Average temperatures are 12C during the day and 3C at night during August. Think early spring in the UK. Overnight temperatures can drop below 0C, particularly by the ice cap, so a sleeping bag should be rated to at least -5C to ensure comfort.

Do I need to be experienced in Trekking/ expeditions?
Although this trek is an amber expedition deemed challenging, it is ideal for beginners and experienced people as long as you have the correct training. Using porters will lessen the challenge from demanding to challenging, and the weekend training will prepare you for expedition skills, what to pack, and moving on the exposed ground and scree slopes. You will speak to one of your guides before booking your place so you have a plan to be best prepared. This will allow you to have the most enjoyable experience in this challenging high mountain environment.
Do I have to use a porter?
No, you do not if you can prove to us that you are physically capable of safely and enjoyably carrying your own equipment and food allowance. We will give you a Turn Wild future discount voucher for not using a porter. However, please bear in mind by using porters, you are helping the local economy.
What equipment do I need?
You will be sent a specific packing list and have a live Zoom training session to make your choices as stress-free and effective as possible. A Turn Wild guide will also run a "shopping session" in West London where they will be to give advice.
How fit do I need to be?
You should be able to carry the weight you intend on your back (not what you intend to give the porters!) up the Watkins path on multiple days. Running 10km, hiking regularly for 6 hours with 1000m of ascent, and cycling for 3-4 hours at a steady pace will prepare you. The training in Snowdonia in June will allow you to be assessed and still give you enough time to prepare.
What will the weather be like?
In September, you will need sunblock during the day. Temperatures will sit around 15°C daily and drop to zero, possibly down to minus 5. Expect sun, freezing rain, sleet and maybe even a little snow at the higher altitudes.
Can I be single ocruparq/ hire equipment?
Yes, we can set up this if you book early enough. There will be a single-room supplemental charge, including a single tent hire of £180. We have some sleeping bags/ liners and dry bags for hire.

We will give you a seminar on Lyme disease and tick bite prevention. It should be noted that ticks are much less active in SeptemberLocal money:
The local currency of Kyrgyzstan is the Kyrgyzstani Som (KGS). It is easy to exchange euros / dollars in Bishkek and the ATM’s will give you local currency. The local guides and porters will happily take dollars as a tip.Weather:
It is 18-24°C in low altitude areas. During the trek, it will normally be 15°C during the day (but be prepared for lower) to below freezing at night in the mountains. The weather pattern is generally stable in the mountains, but occasionally you can have winter days in the mountains at this time.Food allergies or dietary requirements:
If you have any food allergies, you must let us know in advance so we can cater to your needs. You must also bring your epipen / medication and give it to your travel guide beforehand. If you have any specific dietary requirements, you will need to bring this from home as we will not be able to accommodate specific items while on the trek.SIM card:
Local SIM cards are available as soon as you get through passport control and they offer fantastic service and data bundles. New government laws mean your phone has to be registered, so have your model, IMEI number and serial number to hand. We will try to help register your phone but success cannot always be guaranteed.
Mount Kenya
August 6th-12th 2026
Mount Kenya is wild, beautiful, and full of surprises. Once a towering volcano over 6,600m, it now rises to 5,199m as a dramatic alpine massif of crags, glaciers, and misty moorlands. Often overshadowed by Kilimanjaro, it is in fact the true mountaineer’s mountain — more scenic, more varied, and far less crowded.

Often overshadowed by Kilimanjaro, it is in fact the true mountaineer’s mountain — more scenic, more varied, and far less crowded.
The Trek
On this epic 5-day journey, we’ll take the remote and spectacular Chogoria Route. Beginning from the quieter eastern side, this trail offers breathtaking scenery and a challenging yet accessible adventure.
We’ll trek through lush forest, bamboo groves, and surreal high-altitude landscapes before summiting Point Lenana (4,985m) — the highest peak on Mount Kenya open to trekkers without ropes or technical gear.
Highlights Along the Way
Camp beside stunning alpine lakes, including Lake Ellis and the famous Lake Michaelson, framed by 200m vertical cliffs in the Gorges Valley.
Cross dramatic moorlands dotted with giant lobelias and everlasting flowers.
Spot wildlife where you’d least expect it — elephant and buffalo in the forest, zebra and antelope on the high plateaus, and eagles soaring above.
Why Join This Expedition
This is not a simple walk. It is a 5-day expedition into East Africa’s most majestic wilderness — rugged, remote, and unforgettable. The Chogoria Route gives you the best of Mount Kenya: fewer crowds, greater variety, and scenery that will stay with you for life.
Itinerary
DAY ONE: AUGUST 6th – ARRIVE IN NAIROBI
Arrive in Nairobi and meet the team
DAY TWO: AUGUST 7th – CHOGORIA ROAD HEAD
The walk starts with spectacular views of the rolling hills ahead and perhaps even a glimpse of the snow-capped peaks of Batian (5,199m) and Nelion (5,188m) high above. This is a relatively long hike with a picnic lunch before heading out on the trek. You should be in camp by late afternoon. We follow the general rule of acclimitisation to “climb high and sleep low.” An evening walk up to nearby Mugi Hill or Lake Ellis can be an excellent way to end the day and will hopefully make your ascent a lot easier as well. You can even try your hand at a spot of fly-fishing in the lake.
START – 8,301FT / 2,530M I END – 9,768FT / 2,950M I DISTANCE – 5 MILES / 8KM I TIME – 5 HRS TOTAL
DAY THREE: AUGUST 8th – LAKE MICHAELSON
This day is a beautiful walk that takes you up along the ridge overlooking the Gorges Valley, and later in the day, Lake Michaelson comes into view. We will break for lunch overlooking the lake with a spectacular view, and then continue on a gentle traverse and descend to the Lake Michaelson campsite. You can rest in the afternoon or have a wander around the lake.
START – 9,768FT / 2,950M I END – 14,075FT / 4,290M I DISTANCE – 5 MILES / 8KM I TIME – 7 HRS
DAY FOUR: AUGUST 9th – SIMBA TARN
The mornings tend to be slow as the immense beauty at the breakfast table makes for a great opportunity to relax and enjoy a late start. The walk up to the Simba Col is steep and short, so it's best to find your slow and steady pace and enjoy the breathtaking views as you walk out of the Gorges valley. Simba Col camp is nestled in a bowl on the shoulder of Point Lenana at 4,500 metres. This makes for a great camp for an approach to the summit.
START – 14,075FT / 4,290M I END – 15,256FT / 4,650M I DISTANCE – 2 MILES / 3KM I TIME – 2 HRS
DAY FIVE: AUGUST 10th – LENANA (4,985M) TO SAVAGE CAMP (4,200M)
An early departure at 5:30 am for a sunrise summit is the best way to experience this climb and enjoy the expansive views of the mountainside, valleys, and country beyond—even the summit of Kilimanjaro—whilst sipping a nice warm drink. The descent takes you down the northern side to where you will stop at Savage campsite just for the night.
START -15,256 FT / 4,650M I END -13,789 FT / 4200M I DISTANCE - 4.4MILES / 7KM I TIME - 6 HRS

How long is the Chogoria Route trek?
The trek is 5 days and 4 nights, offering a gradual ascent ideal for acclimatisation and scenic immersion. The route starts on the eastern side of the mountain and ascends to Point Lenana (4,985m) – the highest trekking peak on Mount Kenya.
How difficult is the trek?
This is a moderate to challenging trek. You’ll need a good level of fitness and be comfortable hiking for 5–7 hours per day, including some steeper sections at altitude. No technical climbing is required to reach Point Lenana.
What is the maximum altitude?
The summit of the trek is Point Lenana (4,985m). It’s the third-highest peak on Mount Kenya and offers stunning panoramic views — often above the clouds.
Is altitude sickness a risk?
Yes, at nearly 5,000 metres altitude sickness is a possibility. However, the Chogoria Route’s gradual ascent gives your body time to acclimatise. We also monitor everyone carefully and take rest days and hydration seriously.
What kind of scenery can I expect?
Expect diverse and spectacular scenery:
Rainforest and bamboo zones
Moorlands with giant lobelia and senecio
Alpine lakes like Lake Ellis and Lake Michaelson
Dramatic rock spires and glaciated valleys
Will we see wildlife?
Yes! This route has excellent wildlife potential. You may encounter:
Elephants and buffalo in the lower forests
Zebra, eland (large antelope in the higher moorlands)
Birdlife includes sunbirds, eagles, and turacos.
Where do we sleep?
A mix of wild camping and mountain huts (depending on availability and weather). Tents are typically used at Lakes Ellis and Michaelson. Porters carry all gear.
What happens if you do the recce but Turn Wild decides not to run the event?
Your deposits will be held in a Trust account run by the Travel Trust Association. Your deposit will be returned if we decide not to run the event due to not hitting the minimum numbers.
What should I pack?
We provide a full kit list, but key items include:
Good-quality hiking boots
Warm layers (it gets below freezing at night)
Waterproof jacket
Sleeping bag (rated to at least -5°C)
Headtorch, water bottles, sunscreen, and snacks
Do I need a guide or permit?
Yes. Mount Kenya National Park requires all visitors to obtain permits and be accompanied by a registered guide. Our team handles all permits, logistics, and safety support
Are there porters? How much do I have to carry?
We will be using porters and it is important to keep weight to a minimum. You will be expected to share a 3 person tent with another person- so it won’t be too cramped. You will carry a day sack of 30-40 litres with your waterproofs, warm layer, snacks, water and any medications you may need. A soft duffel bag will be carried by the porters for you. This should be able to be squashed.
Can I organise a Safari or beach holiday after the expedition?
Yes! If you have the time, you can really recharge after this expedition. The beaches in Kenya are stunning, the water is warm, the kite surfing amazing and the safaris second to none. Organise your own add on to your own tastes and budget.
How cold could it be at the summit?
There is a wide temperature range on this expedition. It can be as high as mid-20s (degrees Celsius) on the lower sections and Minus seven at the summit due to wind chill, which is normal. A layering system is essential and will be covered as always in our pre-expedition lectures. Your water bladder tube will freeze at this altitude and a wide mouthed water bottle is needed on summit day.
Tipping the guides and porters.
This is optional but normal in East Africa. The lead guide will get tipped independently of the assistant guides, cooks and porters. The amount of porters surprises most groups. Budget around $400–500 USD in cash for tips. We will give a better figure after the recce. You will not be able to transfer funds after the expedition. All this money will go to your African Team- through the lead guide- Turn Wild will retain no tips.

-
The total cost is £1,850 per person. All bookings start with a one on one call with one of our qualified guides. You may also ask any further questions you may have around the expedition. After this call, a deposit of 30% will be sent to you to secure your place. The balance is due 50 days before the start of the expedition. Vaccinations:
There are no vaccinations required for either expedition. However, you may want to consider vaccinations for tetanus, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, rabies, tuberculosis and typhoid. Please contact your doctor or travel clinic to confirm. Ticks in this region can carry Lyme disease, tick-borne encephalitis, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever.

April 7th-14th 2026 I Book Now
Spring in Scotland is a season of renewal. Valleys and lochs burst into life, the expedition season begins, and with the midges yet to peak, it’s the perfect time to explore. The weather can be both kind and challenging — making this landscape an ideal training ground.
The Journey
Your adventure begins in Inverie, Britain’s most inaccessible mainland town. From there, we trek through remote valleys, alongside sweeping lochs, and into some of the country’s most dramatic landscapes. Along the way, we’ll pause at the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct — instantly recognisable from the Harry Potter films — before finishing near Fort William.
The Approach
Getting there is an experience in itself. We’ll travel on some of the UK’s most scenic routes, including the overnight Caledonian Sleeper and the spectacular train journey from Fort William to Mallaig, often ranked among the most beautiful in the world.
Preparation and Training
Before we set off, you’ll take part in practical training on a campsite — covering wild camping, navigation, and team living. This foundation ensures you’re ready for the days ahead.

Do I need to be experienced in wild camping?
No, we specialise in helping enthusiastic hikers embark on a big adventure for the first time, so don't worry; with our step-by-step guidance, you will have a challenging yet stress-free experience. All attendees must have completed our live Zoom training (included) to qualify for this expedition, as it is an arduous expedition that becomes even more challenging in adverse weather conditions.
Campcraft and packing lessons are included in the expedition and conducted at a campsite before we set off on our voyage. You must, however, turn up physically able to carry your backpack for 6 hours with a 500m ascent.
What will the weather be like?
This expedition is not for the faint-hearted. The weather can be unpredictable, last year it was very sunny! However, this is Scotland, the land of the brave, and you must be prepared for anything. Good news: the dreaded Scottish midge is not too bad at this time of year. You will need to pack for conditions that can drop below freezing at night. This means heavier equipment than a warmer-weather expedition.
How fit do I need to be?
The fitter you are, the more resilient you will be and the more you will enjoy it. You need to be able to carry a rucksack containing all your equipment and food for up to 6 hours per day, including ascending 500m on steep terrain. A fitness goal is to regularly run 10km, cycle 60km, or regularly hike 6 hours in mountainous terrain carrying 15kg. Please don't worry. We will provide you with a comprehensive Zoom seminar on expedition preparation!
Do I have to travel there and back by sleeper train?
No, you can fly into an airport, but you will have a long taxi ride. It’s two and a half hours to either Glasgow or Inverness. We will form a WhatsApp group with other team members who may wish to travel this way. However, the train to Fort William is a stunning and exhilarating experience, and we highly recommend it.

May 6th-11th 2026 I Book Now
Welcome to Cape Wrath—possibly the world’s most extreme beach holiday. You should be an experienced team member on expeditions. Trust, experience, and a fundamental understanding of expeditions are required for this challenge.
The Approach
This expedition is a “hard start”—a drop-off in the middle of the Scottish wilderness. Greater planning and preparation are essential. The beaches are stunning, the wilderness is remote. Unpredictable weather is mentally and physically more challenging. But this is what we want; this is our calling.
Welcome to the exciting world of our “White Labels” expeditions—expeditions designed to challenge and inspire.
Why Join
We promise you’ll return with more than memories—you’ll return changed.Spring in Scotland is a season of renewal. Valleys and lochs burst into life, the expedition season begins, and with the midges yet to peak, it’s the perfect time to explore. The weather can be both kind and challenging — making this landscape an ideal training ground.
“All in all, a great, well-prepared and executed experience that improved my abilities and confidence in handling the wilderness”
Itinerary
DAY ZERO: WEDNESDAY MAY 6th – TRAVEL FLIGHT/ NIGHT TRAIN
Travel to the start point
DAY 1: THURSDAY MAY 7th – WILD CAMP NEAR FASHVEN
We will meet at Inverness Train Station around 10am. Our 3-hour transfer will depart after meeting those flying in, while those arriving on the fabulous night train can chill out and have breakfast. We will transfer across the stunning North West Highlands to be “infilled” at the side of the road. There is no soft start. This expedition is for experienced team members only. We will then hike across the rugged, boggy, pathless ground to the viewpoint of Fashven (480m) and head south to find a wild camp spot.
DISTANCE: 11KM / ASCENT: 470M / DESCENT: 240M / DURATION: 5 HOURS / HIKING: HARD PATHLESS
DAY 2: FRIDAY MAY 8th – Sandwood Bay
It’s challenging to start hiking. We climb over rough terrain for the first 13 km to catch some views. After this, we follow paths until we reach the stunning sandy beaches of Sandwood Bay. This beach is a British gem and will become one of your favourite spots in Scotland.
DISTANCE: 25KM / ASCENT: 520M / DESCENT: 750M / DURATION: 10 HOURS / HIKING: MAINLY PATHLESS BOGGY TERRAIN
DAY 3: SATURDAY MAY 9th – SANDWOOD BAY TO KEARVAIG
Another big day. We climb from Sandwood Bay onto challenging hiking in boggy, pathless terrain. We cross rivers as we follow the cliffs north. We will climb over a fence into a military training area. As amphibious assaults and live firing from naval vessels and fighter jets occur here, we will check that there are no military exercises! We will reach Cape Wrath, stop by the visitors' centre, and follow a track to Kearvaig - another stunning beach by a bothy.
DISTANCE: 20KM / ASCENT: 370M / DESCENT: 360M / DURATION: 8 HOURS / HIKING: CHALLENGING, MAINLY PATHLESS BOGGY
DAY 4: SUNDAY MAY 10th – KEARVAIG TO BALNAKEIL
For the first two hours, hiking will be easy. What happens next depends on whether the local ferry is running. If not, we must hike around the bay. After we have collected water, we will aim to camp at a campsite as beach camping is illegal here.
DISTANCE: 25KM MINIMUM / ASCENT: 250-450M / DURATION: 8 HOURS / HIKING: MAINLY PATHLESS BOGGY
DAY 5: MONDAY MAY 11th – BALNAKEIL - DURNESS CAMPSITE - SMOO CAVES - TRANSFER TO INVERNESS
A much easier day. A quick exploration of the Faraid Head peninsula and its incredible bays and beaches, before a short hike (approximately 1 hour) into a campsite to shower and dry the equipment. We then hike to the geological marvel, the Smoo Cave. After seeing this incredible geological rock formation, we will end with a celebratory lunch. We will take our 3-hour transfer back to Inverness Train Station, arriving at approximately 18:30. The sleeper to London leaves at 20:45, or you could fly from Inverness the next day.

You mention a “hard start” - what do you mean by this? Do we start sprinting up hill?
A hard start means that we meet at Inverness Train Station and get into a 3-hour transfer almost immediately after a quick essentials check. There is no lengthy kit check to educate you on what to bring - and just importantly what not to bring! Once at our start point, there is nothing- we are in the wilderness.
How many team members are going to be on this expedition?
The maximum number is nine team members with one guide. We require a minimum of five confirmed participants to proceed. Please book early as transfers and night trains sell out quickly, especially in May.
I have not been on any expeditions. Can I go on this expedition?
Yes, if you come on our expedition training. However, we suggest starting with an expedition that has a slower pace. We will only accept applications from those we think will arrive properly prepared.
What will the weather be like?
It is generally warmer in May, but to be burnt by the sun in the morning, then battered by freezing hypothermic rain at lunch and bruised by hailstones by tea time is feasible and has been experienced. If you do what we say, you will be prepared appropriately.. A strong team can handle this.
What happens if I want to finish the expedition early?
We go in as a team. We return as a team. This would cause a massive problem, as we would have to divert from the route (possibly for up to 2 days of hiking) and wait a long time for a transfer. If in doubt, gain more experience and confidence by participating in our other expeditions. Although this stunning landscape is not mountainous, it is utterly brutal. You are expected to turn up properly equipped and fit enough to avoid letting the team down and to minimise your risk of injury.
What is the benefit to me of joining the team early?
Firstly, there will be a £100 discount for those who pay a £50 reservation fee by October 1, 2025. The next huge benefit is the fact the expedition can run at all. Many people do not realise that service capacity is limited in Scotland. Trains, transfers, and campsites get booked early, and events cannot run. The further you go away from the cities, the greater this issue. The earlier we get the minimum numbers, the earlier you can book your transport and not only save money but also get the flight or train you want. This would also prevent needing to stay extra nights in a hotel and travel a day early or late. You are simply being a better team member by booking early. Lastly, once on an expedition, you can become focused and have a goal - that's a good feeling!
-
The total cost is £650 per person. All bookings start with a one on one call with one of our qualified guides. This call is to make sure all your questions are answered so that all team members know about the expedition challenges and the commitment that must be made in preparation. You may also ask any further questions you may have around the expedition. After this call, a deposit of 30% will be sent to you to secure your place. The balance is due 50 days before the start of the expedition. For cancellations made within 30-40 days of the trip commencement date, Turn Wild reserves the right to retain 50% of the balance payment. For cancellations within 30 days of the departure date, Turn Wild will retain 100% of the total fee. For any further questions or to secure a place, please contact us via the details below. Toubkal Ascent
2026 TBC
Embark on an exhilarating winter expedition to the majestic Mount Toubkal, the crowning jewel of Morocco's High Atlas Mountains!
4167m
2026 To be Confirmed I Book Now
Embark on an exhilarating expedition to the majestic Mount Toubkal, the crowning jewel of Morocco's High Atlas mountains! Standing proudly at 4,167 meters (13,671 ft), the highest peak in North Africa with utterly spectacular views reaching all the way to the Sahara.
Experience waking up on a high mountain. Each day is a new adventure - trekking through serene valleys, navigating icy paths, and bonding with fellow explorers over shared stories and local food. The challenge of reaching the summit is met with unparalleled views that stretch across the Atlas range and the Sahara Desert. It's like standing on the roof of North Africa, with the world laid out before you. You will have the right to tell people back home, “I just climbed the highest peak in North Africa!”
But Mount Toubkal isn't just about the ascent, it's also about the culture. You'll wander through Berber villages, meeting warm locals and experiencing a way of life that's remained largely unchanged for centuries. Each step is a step back in time, a journey through a land rich in history and tradition.
High altitude expeditions are an exhilarating challenge but it should be remembered they are a physically demanding experience. The altitude makes the stunning views a little harder to earn. You do not need climbing skills for this trek, but you do need to have the physical conditioning and stamina of regular strenuous hiking.
This will be an expedition you will always remember.

Do I need to be experienced in high-altitude expeditions?
If you are an experienced hiker who can ascend over 1000m a day on a 6-hour+ hike carrying 5-6 kg this is for you. There are no technical parts to the ascent. This is an ideal first high-mountain challenge. Anything extra you need to know will be included in your pre-expedition training. Seminars on what to wear, the risks, logistics and how to succeed in an expedition team, will be taught in a friendly and effective way. You can always get a personal chat with one of our guides to discuss any concerns if you wish.
What can I give the porter?
The porter will carry up to 15kg of clothes and equipment for you. You must carry waterproofs, snacks, water, an extra warm layer, a hat, gloves, snacks and headtorch. Please do not take your fitness preparation lightly. It is directly related to how much you will enjoy this trip.
What equipment do I need?
We will make this process as stress-free as possible. You will be sent a specific packing list and have a live Zoom training session to make your choices as stress-free and effective as possible. A Turn Wild guide will also run a “shopping session” in West London where they will be able to give advice.
How fit do I need to be?
You should be able to carry the weight of 5-6kg (not what you intend to give the porters!) for 6 hours ascending over 1000m. If you cannot hike regularly, other benchmarks would be running 10km and cycling 60km. You do not need to be a climber. This is a non technical expedition.
What will the weather be like?
It will be approximately 30C in Marrakesh. On the mountain between 15C to zero degrees at night.
Can I be single occupancy / hire equipment?
Yes, we can set this up if you book early enough. There will be a single-room supplemental charge and tent. We do have limited sleeping bags / liners and dry bags for hire.
How much are meals?
Less than £10 a meal. Half that in Marrakesh, depending on your choice.
An up-market multi-course
meal out will be around £20 per person.
Can I have a private tour with my friends?

August 2026
To be Confirmed
Embark on a photographic journey through Greenland's untouched wilderness. This remote trek traverses the dramatic arctic tundra, offering endless opportunities to experience and document your adventure in a truly breathtaking landscape—from the mighty ice caps and moraines to the vast glacial-carved lakes. With Ned as your expedition photography tutor, you will unlock the full potential of your camera and learn the art of photography in the wilderness.
Our days will be filled with light, from the soft glow of the midday sun to the vibrant hues of the long-lasting midnight sunsets. We will hone your skills by photographing our time on the edge of the ice cap and train your lens on the unique flora and fauna of the tundra, including majestic wildlife like Musk Ox, Caribou, Ptarmigan and the elusive but curious Arctic Fox. Even at dusk, the adventure continues with light painting workshops, where we will transform our arctic surroundings into your canvas.
This Greenland adventure is a photographer's dream, where every turn unveils a new scene to be captured. It’s not just a trek; it’s a chance to get creative and fully immerse yourself in the Arctic wilderness—something very few people get to experience.

THE PHotography Modules
During our expedition in Greenland, we will cover a range of photographic styles and techniques, demonstrating how each can be achieved in the wilderness using only the equipment we carry with us. In no particular order, the modules below give an overview of the different topics we will cover:
MODULE ONE: UNDERSTANDING YOUR CAMERA (COVERED DURING DARTMOOR TRAINING)
In this module, we will start by understanding the settings on your camera. As we proceed through the other modules, we will see how these settings can be adjusted to achieve different types of photography.
MODULE TWO: CONNECTING EXPEDITION SKILLS WITH PHOTOGRAPHY (COVERED DURING DARTMOOR TRAINING)
As part of this session, we will learn how to maintain and care for our camera equipment in remote environments and use skills like navigation and route-finding to read the landscape and find the best locations for different shots.
MODULE THREE: DYNAMIC TREK PHOTOGRAPHY
In the early stages of our expedition, we will focus on capturing the experience of trekking against the backdrop of the Arctic tundra and learning how to build in moments for photography while ensuring you and your team can keep moving and maintain your expeditionary goal.
MODULE FOUR: WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY
As we quietly move through the ancient hunting grounds of the Inuit people, we will continue to practise the dynamic photography techniques we’ve already learnt while getting to grips with wildlife photography. Musk Oxen, Arctic Foxes, Arctic Hares and Caribou are all possible sightings as we quietly move through the area.
MODULE FIVE: LANDSCAPE AND OUTDOOR PHOTOGRAPHY
While out in the remote wilderness, we will use the midnight sun for sessions on landscape and outdoor portrait photography with a sunset backdrop of mountains, ice and the arctic tundra extending for miles all around us.
MODULE SIX: LIGHT PAINTING
At a couple of points during the expedition, in the early twilight hours and with the ice sheet behind us, we’ll use our position at camp to practise the delicate art of painting with light - creating surreal and intriguing works of art using only our cameras and torches.
MODULE SEVEN: CAMPCRAFT PHOTOGRAPHY
Last but not least, throughout the expedition we’ll use our time at camp to document the experience of living in the wilderness, and all the skills associated with doing so

PHOTOGRAPHY PACK LIST:
ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT:
Camera- Essential x1
To get the most out of the experience, we strongly recommend bringing a digital camera with manual settings. A good-quality smartphone could be used instead of a camera, but without manual settings, it will limit what you can do. If you don’t already have a camera, Ned can advise on different options to suit a variety of budgets during your 1:1 pre-expedition call.
Memory Cards- Essential x2 minimum
The number of memory cards will depend on your camera (and the type of card it requires) and the amount of memory storage available per card. During your 1:1 cal (included) l, Ned will advise you on how many to bring.
Camera Batteries- Essential x3
Each camera requires different batteries, so double-check your model and make before buying more.
Waterproof camera bag - Essential (small) x1
To access your camera easily while on the move, it’s best to have it in its own bag, which is ideally waterproof. Ned can advise on options as part of your 1:1 call.
Dry Bags- Essential (small - 2-3 litres) x3
To protect your electronics (like the power bank), it’s good practice to keep them in dry bags.
Power bank and camera battery charger x1
To ensure you can recharge your camera batteries as needed, a fully charged power bank and battery charger are required. Ned can advise on options as part of your 1:1 call, but as a starting point, he uses the Anker PowerCore 26800mAh, which gives him at least eight additional charges.
RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT:Camera harness/sling x1 Recommended
A camera harness or sling can be a more comfortable and accessible way to carry a camera while trekking. Ned can advise on options as part of your 1:1 call.
Camera Lens x1 Recommended*
If you use a DSLR or mirrorless camera without a permanent lens, you must bring one. Ned will advise as part of your 1:1 call on what kind of lens to consider, depending on the type of photography you are most interested in. (*A lens is essential if your camera body is detachable)
Neutral Density Lens Filte x1 per lens
Because of the strong daylight in the Arctic during summer, we strongly recommend bringing a neutral-density filter for your camera lens. If you plan to bring more than one lens, it’s wise to have an ND filter attached to each lens.
Lens blower and brush x1
A tool for removing dust and dirt from your camera lens.
Microfibre cloths x2
A tool for removing smudges and dirt from your camera lens.
OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT
Mini tripod/monopod x1
A tripod or monopod won’t be necessary for the most part, as we can rest our cameras on boulders or the ground when needed. However, having a small one can be beneficial - just remember you will have to carry it alongside everything else you bring. If you want to bring one, raise it with Ned during your 1:1, and he will discuss options with you.

Do I need to be experienced in wild camping?
You will need to gain wild camping experience before you go on this expedition. You can get this at our Greenland expedition training event in Dartmoor. The better prepared you are the more you will enjoy it rather than endure it.
How fit do I need to be?
The fitter you are, the more enjoyable and safer your trek. Please remember the Turn Wild mantra over the next few months, “train hard, trek easy!”. Greenland 2024 is an Amber rated expedition which means “challenging” on the expedition traffic light system. Suitable for novices as long as they have done the correct training and preparation.
A training goal you should aim for is being able to do one or many of the following:
Hike for 6 hours, regularly carrying a minimum of 15kg with an ascent of over 500m
Cycle 60 km regularly
Run 10km regularly
We reserve the right to remove any team member at their expense who is at an unsafe fitness level. We have a Turn Wild Strava group to aid your training. We teach you all about what training to do in an expedition training Zoom seminar.
What is the polar bear risk?
There are now sightings in the area in May No polar bears have been spotted in the area in July/ August.
Sadly, we cannot refund or move your place.
What is the weather like?
Average temperatures are 14C during the day and 4C at night during July. Think early spring in the UK. Overnight temperatures can drop below 0C, particularly by the ice cap, so a sleeping bag should be rated to at least -5 to ensure comfort.
How do I reserve a place on the expedition?
After an initial phone consultation to check if it is the right trek for you, A 30% deposit of £705 will secure your place. The final payment is due 50 days before the start of the event. We advise taking insurance out against illness. Injury or anything else as Turn Wild cannot refund or transfer and payments. Plesae note Expedition training is not included and is £299
How long will it take to get there from the UK?
3 days- with opportunities to visiut Copenhagen and go on self organised tours in Nuuk, Sisimiut or even fly onto the spectacular Ilulissat Iceford - a UNESCO World Heritage site, to see calving icebergs or go whale watching. We will be happy to discuss your options with you.
-
The total cost is £2350 per person. All bookings start with a one on one call with one of our qualified guides. This call is to make sure all your questions are answered so that all team members know about the expedition challenges and the commitment that must be made in preparation.
