Environmental Charter

To show our commitment and appreciation for the environment we are really happy to launch our own Environmental Charter. This is to help preserve the fragile ecosystems upon which we tread and give you the confidence that you are on an environmentally sustainable adventure. On every adventure we not only aim to have minimal negative impact but to instill a sense of guardianship and responsibility to all our adventurers.

Our Environmental Charter
We care about the environment. We know you do too. Going into fragile ecosystems, the last few pockets of wilderness in the world, is a responsibility. All expedition members are expected to follow the Turn Wild charter in the spirit of environmental responsibility.

The individual:

  • Washing of cooking utensils will not be done in streams.

  • All used water for cooking / personal use, will be disposed of away from a water source.

  • No litter will be left on the expedition, including chewing gum.

  • No toilet paper or sanitary products are to be buried or left behind. Burning toilet paper can be done if appropriate and if there is no risk of fire. Otherwise, all toilet paper to be carried out. Do not bury wet wipes etc.

  • Whenever possible, make the effort to change route to use public toilets or campsite toilets, rather than go in the wild.

  • All waste food not eaten is to be carried out.

  • No smoking whilst on expedition or hiking, due to risk of fire.

  • Every wild camp area should be left as it is found.

  • If going to the toilet in the wild, a hole of 20cm / 7 inches should be dug.

  • When washing your body / hair, fill a dry bag with water, use soap and wash off 50m from a water source.

  • Stick to established paths if one is available to stop further land erosion.

As a team:

  • In wild areas we will always endeavour to collect a bag of litter dropped by other trekkers and leave the area better than we found it.

As an expedition company:

  • Encourage the use of public transport to get to all destinations including our overseas trips.

  • Take alternative transport to aeroplanes whenever logistically / financially realistic.

  • Train / educate people to care for the fragile wilderness ecosystem.
