The Southern Steppe — Expedition-Weight Backpack Training Day
April 13th & May 25th. Seven Sisters, South Downs
Individual price: £45
The Southern Steppe is an entry-level Turn Wild trek where you can learn the basics of serious hiking while taking on a classic British hike along the South Downs cliffs. As you walk this iconic route, passing the Napoleonic defences of a Martello tower, historic coastguards’ cottages and Beachy head, your international mountain leader-qualified guide will discuss a variety of important topics, including how to layer your clothes to remain dry and comfortable all day, how to properly pack an expedition bag, and how to prepare a Firepot expedition meal (included in the price). You will also learn about the emergency operating procedures that are necessary in the world’s remotest locations.
There will be plenty of opportunities on the Southern Steppe to discuss your expedition fitness training and get advice on incorporating Turn Wild training routines into your workouts. You can also try walking with pack weights if you want to experience hiking with a heavy pack to build your confidence for bigger hiking challenges with Turn Wild. The Southern Steppe route is approximately 22 kilometres long, with an ascent of roughly 320 metres. A guided stretch session will cap off the day
Only 20 places are available on this hike.
